I’m sharing my best tips for keeping your home spic and span EASILY with these bathroom cleaning hacks. These are things that I do daily or weekly that make my bathroom look and feel clean with minimal effort. All you need is some Dawn power wash, Tide, bleach, a vacuum cleaner, and a microfibre cloth. Let’s get you a clean, fresh bathroom TODAY with just a few minutes of work.

Why should you listen to me?

I’m Holly, a mom of 2 little boys, and I have a lovely husband who cuts his own hair in the bathroom. Things get messy here. I have an obsession with keeping my house clean – the bathroom especially. My therapy is cleaning, but I also do not have time to spend hours each week making each room perfect. I am also juggling a handful of side hustles right now. Blogging and Etsy are taking up a lot of my already precious cleaning time so I need methods that work quickly and efficiently. These are simple hacks that I’ve figured out through my own trials, errors, and research. Let me save you the hassle of figuring it out on your own!

My 10 Best Bathroom Cleaning Hacks

01. Declutter the bathroom

DO NOT skip this step. This will make your life infinitely easier. Clear your counters, pick all the toys out of the bathtub, and go through your cupboards. Purging things that are old or you’re not using will not only free up space, but it’ll feel like much less of a chore when you have to put something away. Ensure everything is in its place before you begin the cleaning session. I remove the laundry hamper, scale, and anything else that is on the floor and put it in the hallway so that I have easier access to the floors.

02. Vacuum your entire bathroom

That’s right – vacuum! Sweeping just pushes the dirt around. When I started doing this, it was an absolute game changing hack. I couldn’t believe what my vacuum picked up vs. my broom. I do this once a week (usually, I am human afterall!). My favourite cleaning tool is my Shark vacuum. I purchased my vacuum 4+ years ago and I’ve used it almost every single day since. I did run into issues with the motor recently. When I contacted Shark, they sent me a brand new one, I just had to pay the shipping. I couldn’t even find my receipt since it was so long ago and it wasn’t an issue. My vacuum was purchased on Amazon and I still had amazing customer service from Shark. I will absolutely purchase again.

My mom’s Shark vacuum came with an awesome hard floor head that I promptly stole and LOVE. I haven’t been able to find another one that is the same anywhere, but I did find this which is close to what I have.

03. Create your own mix of powdered Tide and bleach

This tip comes from GoCleanCo and it has simplified my life so much. I keep a box of powdered tide under my sink and it cleans pretty much everything in my house. Mix 1/3 cup of bleach, 1 tsp of POWDERED Tide in a gallon of hot water. I clean my toilet, sink, and floors with this mixture and I will never go back. I use a microfibre cloth and do the floors the old school way: on my hands and knees. This helps me get all the crevices and nooks and crannies. This is an effective method for removing mould as well.

**An important note about mixing: Never mix bleach with other detergents (other than Tide) or chemicals. Combining bleach with certain chemicals can produce toxic gases. Instead, use them separately. This mixture is 100% safe and I’ve used it in my home since Covid. I use it on my hardwood floors (without the bleach) weekly.

04. Use Dawn Powerwash to clean the tub

I LOVE Dawn Powerwash. This makes things go so much faster. I give it a quick spray, let it sit for two minutes and use a microfibre cloth to scrub and rinse it off. This makes your chrome sparkle as well. Theres no need to fill up the tub and waste water cleaning it. I’ve tried a lot of products on my bathtub and Dawn Powerwash is my favorite. It breaks down the soap scum super easy. This means less time scrubbing for you!

05. Keep a cleaning basket in the bathroom

This hack is for all my ADHD mamas out there. If you’re anything like me, you get off track walking to another room and then end up doing laundry and washing dishes instead of cleaning your toilet, this is for you. Keep everything you need in a basket under the sink so you can quickly grab it when you have a few minutes. It’ll stop you from getting side-tracked while getting supplies and make it easier to do quick cleans.

06. Dryer sheets for baseboards

Rubbing dryer sheets along baseboards will repel dust and keep them clean for longer. Dryer sheets are designed to reduce static cling in fabrics, and this property also helps repel dust and dirt from sticking to baseboards. Rubbing them along baseboards can reduce the static charge, making it less likely for dust to accumulate quickly.

07. Coffee filters for mirrors

Use coffee filters instead of paper towels or cloths to clean bathroom mirrors. They are lint-free and leave a streak-free shine.

08. Keep an old tooth brush around

Perfect for cleaning your grout or small spaces like around your faucet. Use the Dawn Powerwash or the Tide/bleach mixture.

09. Clean left to right, top to bottom

This ensures that your bathroom will sparkle when you’re done. It also gives you a clear idea of where to start if your bathroom looks like a disaster zone. It helps remove the decision paralysis that can happen if you look at a really messy room and think “where do I even start?!”. This technique allows you to dive in and get started without feeling overwhelmed.

10. Follow a cleaning schedule

I follow a weekly cleaning schedule that helps me focus on a certain room in my house each day. If you need more persuasion on why a cleaning schedule will simplify your life, read my post here. Since I’ve started, I feel much less like I’m drowning in housework. Rooms in my house become untidy (I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old… my house is clean between the hours of 7pm-6am), but under all the toys and fun stuff, I know that each room is really clean.
